In the last week of August 50,000 people converge one of the most inhospitable locations in the United States, Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Its location is about a three-hour ride from Reno. The desert is actually dry clay lakebed. There is no vegetation or insects except for the occasional spider.
The desert is subject to many windstorms the windstorms produce Dirt Devils which are swirls of fine dust. You must always carry a surgical mask and a pair of goggles to protect yourself from the dust.
You have to be well prepared to go to Burning Man, you just don't show up, you have to bring your own food, water and camping equipment. Bicycle is very important to navigate the extremely large festival. The participants are extremely friendly and helpful. A great deal of emphasis is placed on create activity as is evident by the installations of many are project. I've been to burning man four times and found it to be a worthwhile experience.
Photographs from Burning Man are not for sale.
